Community Disaster Education

Keep yourself and your loved ones safe through the Red Cross’ Community Disaster Education (CDE) presentations, which stress prevention, preparation and timely response in the event of an emergency.

The instructional presentations are given by skilled volunteers who present educational materials on a variety of disaster/emergency topics in a number of different ways to best connect with the audience.  Whether its students, people within the community, or community organizations and agencies, our CDE presenters will eloquently convey safety strategies that could prove to be life saving.

In addition to our general Community Disaster Education presentations, we can also sometimes offer the following programs:

  • The Pillowcase Project – is a program aimed to ease children’s fears about storm season and the evacuations that often accompany it. Children learn to pack their favorite items from home into a pillow case for easy transport, and parents learn ways to dispel their children’s concerns about storm evacuations.
  • Senior Preparedness Program – is a program funded through the generosity of Entergy Charitable Foundation & the United Way of the Greater New Orleans area.  The Senior Preparedness Program provides informational presentations and Preparedness Packs to senior citizens in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. The program addresses senior citizen concerns and worries about disasters, evacuations and financial and health issues; and also provides information and resources, which are individually tailored to senior citizens’ specific needs and requirements.

For a brief overview of some of the topics that will be covered during a Community Disaster Education presentation visit the preparedness center.  Or to get a Community Disaster Education presentation in your school, community center, senior center or other community venue or to host the Pillowcase Project or Senior Preparedness Program call the chapter at 504-620-3105 or email your request to info@arcno.org.
