How We Help

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for & respond to emergencies. 

 

The Southeast Louisiana Chapter services more than 1.6 million people throughout Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. John, Assumption, Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes.

Local Disaster Assistance:

The Southeast Louisiana Chapter responds to disaster every 15 hours and assists those in the community that are affected by disasters such as house fires, tornadoes, floods, and other emergencies.

 

Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide immediate assistance to address the following critical needs:

-         Food

-         Clothes

-         Temporary Lodging and Rental Assistance

-         Bedding and Linens

-         Medication and Medical Device Replacement

-         Mental Health Care

In Fiscal Year 2009, the Southeast Louisiana Chapter:

ü      Responded to 672 disasters

ü      Provided financial assistance to 903 families

Service to Military Families:

The Service to Armed Forces Program assists military members and their families with:

-         Emergency Communications

-         Emergency Financial Assistance

-         Crisis Information & Referral Services

In Fiscal Year 2009, the SAF program served 3,374 local military families.

Health & Safety:

Learning simple health and safety techniques can give you the confidence to help anyone in your home, neighborhood, or at work.

In Fiscal Year 2009 the Southeast Louisiana Chapter:

 

ü      Trained 42,716 individuals in Health and Safety Issues

ü      Taught 21,948 people about disaster prevention and preparedness
