The American Red Cross Humanitarian Ball is held to recognize local individuals, businesses or organizations whose efforts and accomplishments have made communities better places to live and work.  Based on the fundamental principles of the Red Cross Movement - humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independance, voluntary service, unity and universality - the award focuses on the first of these principles - Humanity.  Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being.  Humanity promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace among all people.
