Health & Safety
- First Aid Team: Help staff special events throughout the year. Advanced medical training is helpful but not required. Advanced Red Cross First Aid and CPR skills are necessary. Training is available. (All Regions)
- Volunteer H&S Instructors can teach:
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- Lifeguard/Water Safety
- Babysitting
- WHALE Tales, Scrubby Bear, BAT, FACT)
- HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention

- Health Fair Exhibitor: Set up and assist with Health & Safety Exhibits and Health Fairs; hand out brochures and answer questions concerning Health & Safety and chapter issues. (All Regions)
- Data Entry Assistant: Enters class roster information into H&S database (All Regions)
- Telemarketing Assistant: Pre-qualify prospects by making phone calls to business and industry; follow-up with phone calls to market products and services. (All Regions)
- Statistical Assistant: Maintain Indicators of Chapter Performance surveys & UW demographic, and makes telephone calls to course participants to measure treatment for health emergencies. (All Regions)
- Health and Safety Youth Program Specialist: Works with Community Program Coordinator to market youth programs , schedule training with Program Leaders. (All Regions)
- Account Specialist: Organize Full Service and AP files (A-Z) and separate current from non-current, Ensure data is correct and updated on all accounts. Verify training interest with non-current customers, quantify leads and give to Coordinator, file all accounts that have no interest in lapsed customer files. (Metro only)
- Clerical Assistant: Assist with general functions such as filing and ICP Data entry. (All Regions)
- Logistical Support Clerk: Set-up and break down classes, clean manikins, and pack classes for outreach training. (All Regions)
- First Aid Station Logistical Clerk: Coordinate first aid supplies and equipment for First Aid Stations. (All Regions)
Community Outreach
- Special Projects: Assist with various duties for fundraising, community events, and presentations (businesses, schools, seniors, faith based). (All regions)
- Data Collection Volunteer: Collecting statistical information for reports, grants, etc. (All regions)
- Community Resources Research Volunteer: Researching community resources as it pertains to client recovery and community preparedness. Researching upcoming community events for Red Cross participation. (All regions)
- Community Event Volunteer: Represent the Red Cross at community events by staffing a Red Cross table and provide preparedness information to event participants. (All Regions)
- Community Disaster Education: Conduct and support CDE presentations on Hurricane Preparedness, Fire Safety, Flu Safety, etc. (All regions)
- Vehicle Maintenance Volunteer: Help with general maintenance of department vehicles to include: cleaning, fueling, bringing vehicles for repairs, oil changes, inspection stickers, etc. (Metro only)
- Administration Support Volunteer: Provide clerical support in the form of stuffing envelopes, putting presentation materials together, etc. (Metro only)
Administrative Services
- Office of Volunteers: Volunteers assist with writing volunteer job descriptions, setting up volunteer orientation courses, conduct volunteer screening interviews, help with volunteer placement, record keeping, and recognition. (Metro only)
- Clerical: Assist with bulk mailing, filing, and inventory, phone operation, etc. (All Regions)
- Maintenance: Volunteers needed to help with routine maintenance duties. Stocking supplies and inventory at the shelter. (All Regions)
- Receptionist: Responsible for answering the switchboard and forwarding calls to appropriate person; ensuring walk-ins are signed in and directed to correct location. (All Regions)
- Northshore Facility Manager: Become familiar with the A/C, generator system and other facility systems as well as oversee the partnership with St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Trustee Program. This program provides trustees that help clean and maintain the facility and property. (Northshore only)
Financial Development
- Manage Donation Canisters: Keep ongoing log of when canisters are checked out to people, including full contact info. Ensure the canisters come back (may need to pick them up), and process the donations for Accounting. (Metro only)
- Manage Third Party Events: Attend events being held to benefit SELA that are put on by other organizations (often churches). Speak for 5 minutes or less to the group to thank for their donation & give an example of how the money will be utilized. Bring funds back to HQ for processing. (All regions)
- Manage Consumer Fundraising for Red Cross Month: Approach restaurants, stores and other possible businesses to partner for Red Cross Month. Work with Chief Financial Officer to process Third Party Agreements, deliver agreements and follow up with contact at business before/after to collect funds. Communicate any marketing/promotion needs to the chapter communicator. May assist with marketing/promotion if interested (via website, social media, flyers, etc).(All regions)
- Manage In-Kind Donations: This is especially critical during a DR. Speak with people interested in making an in-kind donation, process necessary paperwork, put in touch with the proper contact at the chapter or NHQ. (All regions)
- Special Event Volunteers: Working an event committee to help with auction item donations, sponsorship, planning and set-up. Working the day of an event to assist with set-up, registration and other duties as needed. (All regions)
- Disaster Public Affairs Volunteers: On-call to respond, as necessary, to local disasters. Mainly consists of sending out media-alerts & conducting call-downs to media. May occasionally go on-scene to support the DAT on local disasters. Can also utilize volunteers interested in photography, videography and social media. (All regions)
- Speaker Bureau: Volunteers to speak at a variety of functions to the overview of the Red Cross. Preference is seasoned volunteers and board members - or maybe members of local Toastmasters or something similar. (All regions)
- Data Entry: Entering data accurately in regards to donations made to the chapter (Metro only)
- Mailing Acknowledgement Letters: Helping stuff and send acknowledgement letters. (All regions)
- Website Support: Assisting in keeping the website up to date with recent news stories, updating visual elements for current communication campaigns, etc. (All regions)
- Processing Mail and Delivery: Working out of the regional offices to routinely (at least 3 times a week) process mail and bring necessary pieces to HQ in New Orleans. This could also be a courier position. (All regions)
Emergency Services
- Disaster Action Team: Respond to small scale disasters and provide emergency assistance to families. (All Regions)
- Armed Forces Caseworker: Work with local members of the military and their families ensuring the delivery of emergency communications. (Metro office only)
- Disaster Clerical: Assemble class packets, stamp brochures, and distribute disaster safety information in the neighborhood as necessary. (All Regions)
- Sheltering: Run and operate shelters when large amounts of people are temporarily displaced from their homes. (All Regions)
- Mass Care Teams: Drive the ERV (Emergency Response Vehicle) to deliver food to people affected by the disaster. (All Regions)
- Logistics: Volunteers make sure staff and volunteers have everything they need to run a shelter or respond in a disaster. (All Regions)
- Disaster Health Services: Volunteer nurses are needed to make sure people's basic health needs are met. (All Regions)
- Disaster Mental Health Services: Mental health physician's help people cope during times of disasters. (All Regions)

In order to be eligible to volunteer with the Southeast Louisiana American Red Cross you must be over the age of 18, or 14 with parental consent, and able to pass the background check. Younger aged students can volunteer under the direct supervision of their parents.
