Last week (July 19, 2010 – July 25, 2010), our Southeast Louisiana Chapter volunteers were quite busy. We had ten volunteers respond to eight incidents! This week is turning out to be really busy as well, including two 2-alarm fires that occurred in the greater New Orleans area this Monday!
Over the course of last week, SELA served fourteen families, totaling 49 individuals. Families were provided assistance on a case-by-case basis with services that included emergency lodging, food and clothing. Additionally, our volunteers provided a canteen operation to ensure that our first responders stayed hydrated and had snacks while they battled emergency.
Furthermore, we assisted seventeen military families, ensuring that critical messages about ailing family members, deaths in the family and even births, were communicated to deployed members of the military.
As evidenced by the events of this past week, we truly are a volunteer-led organization. Our volunteers continue to provide excellent service to ensure that the community is provided adequate relief, but we are still in need of additional assistance. To learn how you can help the Red Cross, or to sign up to become a volunteer yourself – please call us at 504-620-3105 and ask to speak to our Volunteer Services Department. We'd love to have you join us!
