The Red Cross continues to meet the needs of thousands of individuals and families in southeast Louisiana who are still struggling with the impact of hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
People whose homes have been damaged can call the Red Cross at 1-866-GET-INFO (438-4636) and FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) for assistance and information updates. Residents are also encouraged to let their friends and family know where they are through the Red Cross Safe and Well website at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
Red Cross will transition to mobile distribution of meals and cleaning supplies to support individuals and families impacted by hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Red Cross will deliver meals and cleaning supplies directly to residences, allowing them to focus their time on rebuilding their homes.
Fixed feeding sites in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes will close after dinner on Sunday, September 27th. American Red Cross will provide mobile feeding in these areas where a fixed feeding site was located. Feeding vehicles will deliver two meals per day to residents in affected communities.
Additionally, Red Cross cleaning supplies will be delivered to residents' homes. Individuals in need of cleaning supplies can request items from any feeding vehicle. Supplies will be delivered to the individual's household. American Red Cross cleaning supplies will not be available at distribution sites in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes after Sunday, September 27th.

We know you are still feeling the effects of the tropical storms and hurricanes, and we are here to help you. Here are some of the ways the American Red Cross can help: Emergency financial assistance is available, based on surveys of the hardest-hit areas by our Disaster Assessment Teams. To qualify for emergency financial assistance youmust have two things:
Verified significant structural damage to your home
Identification showing you lived at the address where you are claiming significant structural damage
If you are in a Red Cross shelter, caseworkers will meet with you and your family to discuss your disaster-caused needs. Financial assistance is not available for evacuation or food loss due to a power outage.

If you have returned home and the damage is extensive or you don’t have power, you should go to the nearest Red Cross shelter, where you will find safety, comfort and food, as well as recovery information.

Mobile feeding trucks are moving on established routes through affected neighborhoods to make sure you have water and a meal while cleaning up or if you’ve lost power.

If you have lost food, we can refer you to local community resources, such as a food pantry, to help you.

We can provide you with cleanup supplies including a mop, broom, brush, bucket disinfectant, work gloves and other items.

Emotional counseling and support is available. We recognize this has been a very difficult time for the people of the Gulf Coast.

Individuals and families who have a continuing need for shelter should register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362, or registering online at www.fema.gov.
